Life Pacific鈥檚 internship program is designed to offer students experience-based, hands-on training in a student鈥檚 desired field under the聽skilled leadership of a聽seasoned聽mentor.

Pastor Michael Van聽Proyen聽at聽Kings Way Foursquare聽Church聽in Sequim, Washington has hosted Life Pacific interns at his church for several years now.

鈥淲hen interns first arrive at our church, I pray with them asking聽the Lord聽to聽deposit one significant Kingdom truth into their soul,鈥 Michael says.鈥疕e聽believes聽the intern partnership has proven mutually beneficial in every instance and the church he leads will continue to welcome Life聽Pacific聽interns for years to come.

Student interns feel the same way.

Ruby Flores is studying transformational ministry at Life Pacific and聽only knew a few people at聽Eastside Foursquare Church in Bothell, Wash.聽when聽she moved there for聽an聽internship聽with the pastoral team.聽She believes the experience gave her a fresh perspective on what ministry looks like and what it takes to reach people through local church ministry.

聽A Biblical Studies major at Life Pacific,聽Aman聽Kasai聽says聽his聽internship聽experience聽at Water of Life Community Church in Fontana, Calif.聽provides聽him with practical tools needed聽to聽manage conflict, preach consistently, disciple students towards a more abundant life with Christ, and organize events.

鈥淚 now have the聽knowledge to help others in their faith, and I have the hands-on experience聽to understand聽how to minister,鈥澛燗man聽says.

鈥淲e value the next generation and聽want to develop their聽abilities to reach the world for Jesus,鈥澛燣ife Pacific聽Director of Calling and Vocation Joshua Ortega says.聽Based on聽2 Timothy 2:2, Joshua believes in the calling of these students to reach and teach others.聽More, he believes in the need to equip them with practical experiences so they can completely apply what they have learned.

鈥淟ife Pacific internships provide practical聽partnerships聽offering聽students valuable experiences and聽passing on knowledge and skills聽from seasoned leaders and organizations,鈥 Joshua says.

Additionally, internships聽at Life Pacific聽are designed to develop the whole聽person through establishing a lifestyle of spiritual聽formation聽and self-discovery.

Through her internship at Eastside, Ruby聽learned how to approach聽weekly ministry, apply the tools聽she has聽learned in class, and聽accept the聽responsibilities聽of helping lead effective ministries聽through the local church.聽Aman聽says he has internalized discipleship skills and a love for studying the Bible that will serve him well for the rest of his life.

Dating back nearly 20 years, LP alum Karen Hyde developed Life Pacific鈥檚 first formalized internship program as part of a capstone project for her master鈥檚聽degree. Later,聽Elizabeth聽Ingrum, then Director of Ministry Formation, formulated course requirements helping to expand the internship program across additional majors.

Today, Joshua Ortega and Program Coordinator Kristina Stover help students in every聽degree program聽find internship聽opportunities that will add value to their college education.聽They聽make聽connections with businesses, non-profits,聽and聽Foursquare聽district聽offices聽and churches聽with a goal of giving聽students more聽internship聽options than ever before.

This year鈥檚聽Internship Fair聽in February聽saw almost double the amount of host sites signing up聽than in聽previous years.聽This is because employers聽view internships聽as聽valuable聽experience聽on resumes and for job candidates they are considering for employment. A聽growing number of organizations are interested in providing聽diverse聽experiences聽to聽better prepare them for the marketplace and how to function successfully with聽various聽styles of operations.

God is using Ruby鈥檚 internship experience to make the most of her education.

鈥淭his experience has allowed me to integrate what I have learned and truly understand what I have experienced as I share truth with others,鈥 Ruby says. 鈥淚t is part of who I am.鈥
